Into the Brier Patch

After some discussion the party opts to forge ahead into the tangled briers. The tunnels within are low and narrow, forcing all but Poot to stoop over and hunker down. There seems to be Little danger of getting scratched badly by the thorny walls however unless you deliberately tried to plow through them. After all six adventurers have filed into the maze, you are immediately faced with a choice of direction. You can continue through the tunnels north, or east. To the west, the passage opens up into a chamber of sorts, with a higher canopy that would allow everybody to stand upright.

Okay, we need a marching order and a decision on which way to proceed. For the duration of the maze, I'm arbitrarily nominating Poot as direction caller. This means that Poot will listen to everybody's feed back and call out the party's choice of which way to go. If there is dissent, confusion or late posts, Poot's final post will be the one I go with. Note that this is not a leadership issue, just that I'm trying to keep things moving so it doesn't take the party a month to make three left turns. To that point I will be updating this thread and the map above as quickly as you guys keep the responses coming so make sure to check back often.

A note on movement within the Brier. All small bipeds ( goblins, Poot) and med sized quadrupeds. All med sized creatures ( eg large dogs) can move unhindered through the passages. All Med sized bipeds (all the rest of you) move at half speed ( 3 squares instead of 6, 2 for Gerund in his heavier armor), and suffer a -4 to hit and a -4 to AC due to the cramped conditions. Hacking through the vegetation is an option. each 5ft section has 40 HP. You will definitely get scratched and cut in the process though, and you will definitely attract the attention of any critters nearby. The fog keeps things too moist to burn very well.

Oh, and ignore that white dotted line on the map. It really doesn't mean anything.

I'll cover the rear then.

I'll be in towards the back near Seoni. As for the general direction I'll go with majority rule.

OOC: From what I hear, Gerund needs his rear covered. Hee.

Seoni votes for middle of marching order, perhaps in front of Gerund?

Seoni says, "I vote north, but I wouldn't mind checking out that chamber to the west. Ultimately, I haven't a clue which way to go, so I'll follow whoever leads."

Yola will go behind Poot.

Whichever way the rest of the party wants to go is fine with me

The party winds its way north through the tangled maze. Shalelu, bow at the ready takes the lead. After a few minutes she raises her hand to signal a stop, and indicates that the path branches off to the left(C8)and right. She pauses, waiting for you to indicate which way to proceed.

"Left?"

Left sounds good to me

OoC: sorry I've been absent, had a crazy week...

The party will head left. In fact, trying to remember my maze rules, I believe we will always try and head left.

Rounding the corner to the west, Shalelu and Poot see that the path branches again almost immediately. The path to the north-west starts to open up, getting wider and higher, while the path to the south-west gets tigher. Behind them Yola notices that the eastern path also begins to widen out and twist slowly to the south.

Before Poot can pick which left to take, the halfing's keen ears pick up the sound of voices ahead. Shalelu hears them too and draws back her bow in alarm. From the north-west passage come the sounds of goblin conversation.

OOC: oh, forgot to mention that there is a bramble door like the one you originally entered through in the extreme north of C8

Poot uses Message to send a near inaudible whisper to Shalelu and Yola, "I'm going to spy on the goblin voices ahead in the NW passage. Yola stay here with the others, quiet and alert...Shalelu come with me."
OoC: Poot will use stealth to scout the voices with Shalelu. If he can still maintain eye contact with Yola he will send a 2nd Message to her about what he sees, if not he will go back to the party to report.

Poot and Shalelu creep forward soundlessly about 10-12 feet. Enough for the elf to steal a quick look into the holoow where the voices are coming from. She ducks back quickly and makes several hand gestures to Poot, who turns to Yola and magically sends the message, "at least six goblins ahead, armed but not on guard." Yola passes the message on down the line of her companions and soon the whole party is tensing for battle.

Yola moves to the square diagonaly to where Poot is which should be 3 squares horizontally for Yola, I'm doing this quietly as possible but also making enough room for the rest of the party to come in

BEFORE Yola comes within audible distance of the goblins, Poot uses message to convey the following plan to the party.(uh oh strategeries!)

There's a nice little bottle neck there connecting C4 to C8. If we can get the warriors in the party on either side of the bottle-necks exit into c8, Poot will create a ruckus to bring the Goblins pouring out of there so the warriors can flank them as they enter c8. Kosher?

Sasha offers her services as a flanker hiding within the brambles ready to flank the little monstrosities as they come tearing after Poot.

Seoni volunteers to flank as well. A few Magic Missiles might be useful.

Yola can flank one of the sides to help attack the goblins as well.

Once the flankers are in place, Poot places himself (pretty much where he is on the map right now,) and begins his performance as bait.
The key to being a successful bait (as expounded in detail in Sir Archimond's "7 Reasons I Prefer Halfling Squires,") is to be as focus grabbing as possible.
So, using Dancing Lights, he creates 4 small torch flames on his body and begins to roll around frantically on the ground crying out much like a...well...a halfling on fire.

Seoni is impressed. This is a use of Dancing Lights that has never occurred to her.

Sasha wonders if attacking the snots while they are double-overed with laughter might not be a bad fall-back tactic.

Yola, sighs, shakes her head and hoists her sword, muttering to herself I really hope the gobos like the show.
