Ignoring his own wounds, Gerund draws on the last of his holy strength to partially heal Sasha's. The party disposes of the sinspawn and searches the prison. Poot and Seoni refresh everyone's Light spells and you remount the catwalk, heading once again into the the gloom...
After about twenty feet the passage opens into a room. This room contains several ancient relics of what appear to be torture implements, although their function and style seem strange and archaic. In one corner sits a spherical cage with spikes protruding inward from its bars. In another stands a star shaped wooden frame, its surface studded with hooks. And in the centre of the room stands a long table covered with leather straps and a number of cranks that seem designed to rotate and swivel. A door on the east wall and another on the south lead out of the chamber. A search of the room reveals that all of the devices show signs of extreme decay, being far to rusted and worn to actually work anymore.
Sasha opens the door in the south wall. beyond, the remnants of several chairs and a table clutter the floor of the next room. To the south stand three stone doors, each bearing a strange symbol of a seven pointed star.
Sasha searches through the rubble and finds it is strewn with countless fragments of books and scrolls, all written in a strange spiky language that she cannot read. While she is sifting through the study, Poot's sharp ears note a faint and distant moaning from beyond the eastern door. He indicates the noise to Yola, who brashly throws open the door. In the dim light is revealed a long descending staircase. Yola can just make out the floor of a room at the bottom, but no sign of what is making the distressed moaning. Now that the door is open, the entire party can hear the noise, which while faint, is definitely made up of more than one voice.
Your characters' positions are noted on the map below. What do to? continue to investigate the study, with all the book and scroll fragments and the three doors, or investigate the ominous moaning from the bottom of the stairs?

Yola - hefts up the polearm, I'll go first, it looks to be only a one person staircase,
Gerund, can you detect evil from up here?
Yola nods to Poot, make sure you've got my back there halfling.

[Greg, Does Seoni have any spells left now? I've lost track.]
"It sounds like there may be someone in trouble. Isn't that waitress, the sister, still missing?," Seoni asks.
@Seoni: All 1st lvl spells used up. Only unlitted 0lvls left, and your Touch of Destiny. Tsuto's sister was rescued back in the Glassworks basement-see this thread: http://irondesk.blogspot.com/2008_08_03_archive.html).
There's definitely more than one voice coming from down there.
Gerund wonders how long all this horrific stuff has been down here and for what purpose. Were the villagers aware of its existence, he ponders.
Using his ability to sense evil, aside from the lingering residue of sinister acts, he readies his sword for potential close encounters.
