Charge of the Very Light Brigade

Snarling and cackling, the mounted goblins crash into Yola and Gerund, trying to drive them over the cliff or away from the bridge's anchoring ropes. But the two heroes stand strong and neither swinging horsechopper not snapping jaws manage to find their mark. Gerund strikes out with a mighty swing killing the first goblin dog and sending its rider tumbling, while Yola side steps the dog attacking her and neatly decapitates the goblin mounted on it.

Behind them Seoni pulls one of the scrolls recovered from the catacombs from her belt and begins to read aloud. She struggles with the archaic script, but after a moment the magical writing fades from the page and a bright flaming sphere erupts to life in the middle of the goblin's ranks, sending them shrieking in panic. one goblin dog is completely consumed by the sphere and burned very badly, throwing its unfortunate rider to his death fleeing into the surrounding bushes with a whimper.

With the tower sentries dead, Sasha and Shalelu have no more targets for their bow fire. Sasha draws her rapier and sprints across the bridge as fast as she can to aid her companions, while Shalelu advances more slowly, bow still nocked, looking for a break in the melee to fire into.



Gerund and Yola continue to hack relentlessly at their clearly over matched foes, and instead of being pushed into the sea, they begin to push back the goblins instead. With a howl more bestial than the goblin dog she faces, Yola runs the unmounted beast clean through and charges forward, throwing its corpse in front of her. Gerund fends off the attacks of the last mounted goblin, and Seoni seizes the moment to roll her flaming sphere into his attacker from behind. They dog and rider are singed badly but are able to leap away before being fully immolated.



Gerund cheers this success but drops his guard, forgetting for a nearly fatal second about the first rider that he unhorsed ( undogged?). The evil little creature jumps from the bushes that he had been thrown into and drives a rusty knife deep into the paladin's side. Likewise, Yola falls victim to goblin sneakiness, as the rider and dog who moments before retreated from Seoni's fire now redouble their attack against her. In her rage Yola barely notices the blood flowing freely from her leg and side as she pivots and cuts down both rider and mount in a whirling frenzy of steel.

Sasha, having reached the far side of the bridge tumbles behind Gerund and comes up right beside the goblin that had wounded him. Before the creature could draw back for another attack - indeed before it had even realized Sasha was there, she runs the creature through with her rapier, ending the battle.
