Poot and Sasha

Poot and Sasha make their way to the cathedral by mid morning. There Father Zanthus greets you warmly and shows you around the adjoining graveyard. When you mention what you learned from the goblins, he confirms it with a sad nod and says, “Yes, its true. While the little beasts were running rampant through the town, some of them stole in here and desecrated Father Tobyn’s grave.”

You learn that Father Tobyn was the head priest here in Sandpoint before Father Zanthus. He and his daughter were killed in the fire that destroyed the original cathedral five years ago. Upon inspecting the site, you find that not only has Tobyn’s grave been smashed, his remains have been stolen.

Father Zanthus says that he has already reported this to the sheriff, and asks that you keep this news quiet. “Father Tobyn was much loved by the people of this town, and I think they have already been through enough,” he finishes.

1.)any clues left behind at the gravesite.
2.)any backstory into Tobyn, Zanthus might know. Why someone would want his remains, etc.

Poot will of course promise mum's the word in regards to Tobyn and thank Zanthus for his help.

Sasha listens intently while she pokes around the grave-site. She mentally notes the connection between the fires while sizing up Father Zanthus.

"Doesn't this seem a little well orchestrated for snots? I mean attacking dogs and throwing fish is one thing ... but ransacking a cemetery during a raid? I don't get it."

Father Zanthus "Can you tell us more about this fire that killed father Tobyn.

"The fire," Father Zanthus says. "Well, it happened about a month after the late unpleasantness with the Chopper. It started her, at the old chapel, but spread quickly. As the town rallied to save the church, the fire spread, consuming the North Coast Stables, the White Deer Inn (used to be called the Black Deer Inn back then), and three homes. In the end, the church burned to the ground."

"We found Ezakien's remains in what had been his bedchamber. I like to think that means the smoke took him quickly and he did not suffer much, thanks be to Desna."

"Ezakien Tobyn was a good man, and the spiritual leader of this community for almost 20 years. He has a good father. He was my mentor and friend, and losing him right on the heels of the late unpleasantness like that was a real blow to the town."

Despite Sasha's and Poot's diligent search of the grave site, no clues are revealed. The culprits stole into the yard, made straight for Tobyn's grave, dug up his remains and left the same way they entered. The grave marker was knocked over and craked into several peices, but you can't tell if that was deliberate or just happen in the course of digging up his body.

Sasha turns to Poot. "Well the little snots knew what they were doing. The problem is -- I don't think they were smart enough to figure something like this out on there own. I mean why target this grave where there were easier ones."

"What do you think? Why don't me go see Yola and the blacksmith. Maybe they are having better luck ... or more breakfast."

Poot scratches his head,
"I agree, if we head back now we won't miss second breakfast."
