The Boar Hunt

It only takes a half hour or so to reach the Tickwood by horseback, and despite having little experience riding, you’re pleased at how quickly you take to it. The mount Aldern pick for you is strong and agreeable. “Have you named her yet?” he asks. “If you don’t give her a name by the end of the hunt then I will!” he jokes.

Aldern proves to be a charming conversationalist, and you are eager to hear more of his stories of Mangnimarian high society, but he keeps steering the talk back to you, and seems equally as enthralled with your stories of life growing up in a free wheeling Varisian caravan.

The boar hunt itself proves far less exciting than you thought. It turns out the boars of the Tickwood are not an overly ferocious lot, though they are very good at hiding. After several hours of serching and stalking, the dogs startle one of the pigs out into the open. The squealing creature charges straight down the game trail to where you and Aldern stand. . .

You can cast a single spell at the boar, or dive off the trail. Which will it be? Also, I’m coasting through the trip a bit here, but feel free to elaborate on the conversation between you and Aldern as much as you want. Ask questions, or even tell stories or give answers to questions you think he would ask.

At the start of the hunt, Seoni casts mage armour. It surely wouldn't make an impression —a *good* impression at least—to fall off this horse and knock herself out.

Although Seoni isn't all that comfortable with Aldern's high society banter, neither is she willing to do all the talking, especially about back home. The past is best left behind, after all.

She wonders why, as part of Mangnimar's gentry, Aldern now finds himself in Sandpoint. [Greg, if you mentioned this before, pls refresh my addled brain]

[for the battle]
Although Seoni prefers the flashiness of some of her other spells better, it's hard to quarrel with the effectiveness of Magic Missile... especially when you're being charged at. She fires off her MM spell at the beast, hoping the horse doesn't panic and toss her on her behind in the process.

When Seoni asks why Aldern finds himself in Sandpoint, Aldern answers easily, "Oh I used to come up here to the Tickwood to hunt with my father many years ago. I'm waiting for a business deal to go through right now, and thought it would be fun to get out for a few days, you know, rediscover my roots and all that. But what about you? Do you really enjoy all this rustic living? The dusty road and all that rot?"

. . .

Seoni's magic missile strikes the boar full on and the creature stumbles and turns to the side. Its momentum sends it tumbling of the trail in a quite impressisve sommersault of mud and leaves. Aldern rides up and impales it through the heart with a spear thrust before it can recover.
